WHS Stationary ~ Shop Online at WHS Online Stationary Store - School Of Rock School of Rock is a melodious feel-good comedy which sees Jack Black play a frustrated rocker ‘front man’ who gives rock a reason and a rhyme by teaching a motley class of children how to "stick it to the man" with the power of music. Black plays unemployed slob and hell raising guitarist Dewy Finn who needs to make a few fast bucks after being kicked out of his rock band. Posing as his reformed rocker-come substitute teacher flatmate he falls into teaching a class of prepubescent stiffs. After over hearing the kids practice in their school orchestra Finn decides to teach the kids “the power of rock” and fulfil his life long dream of entering the Battle of the Bands competition. Black’s performance is a comic tornado of extreme hair and sweaty rock flip-outs that displays his unique style of hyperactive humour perfectly. Richard Linklater’s (Dazed & Confused Waking Life) direction does not try to curb Black’s performance but simply allows the interaction with the young music pupils to amplify the full range of his comedy skills; and to great effect. The movie has a superb soundtrack including Led Zepplin AC/DC and The Who which Black uses to enthuse his pupils with the same love for rock that he has. The obvious affection for the music of the genre held by both director and star and the genuine enthusiasm the entire film has for its subject-matter creates a sparkling comedy that is refreshing and highly addictive. This energetic film will have everyone singing from the same hymn sheet – kids families and of course hardened Jack Black fans will all love the vivacious madness Black undoubtedly brings to this movie. WHSmith - At a Glance

WHSmith is the UK's number one family retailer selling a range of products that extends across education, entertainment and information. Each year WHSmith High Street stores sell enough pens to circle the earth; enough books to fill a library shelf from London to Edinburgh; and enough paper to write a letter to everyone in the world. WH Smith also sell 122 million magazines and newspapers each year - enough to make a pile 69 times taller than Mount Everest.

The first High Street store was a small news vendor opened in 1792 in Little Grosvenor Street, London, by Henry Walton Smith and his wife Anna. Today, WHSmith has 545 High Street stores, covering over 3 million square feet of selling space and employing 17,000 staff. Clubcard, the Company's loyalty scheme, has more than 5 million members.

Books, newspapers, magazines and stationery form the core of the High Street business. WHSmith sell more books than any other retailer in England, Scotland and Wales. For example, one in three copies of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire were bought from WHSmith in the first weekend of release. WHSmith promote new authors with their Fresh Talent showcase and also have the Thumping Good Read Award that is voted for by members of Clubcard.

WHSmith's major stores stock more than 45,000 product lines, whereas an average food supermarket carries around 10,000 lines.

WHSmith currently holds a strong market share in each of the core categories in which it trades - books, stationery, news, magazines and entertainment. WH Smith's strategy is to exploit the strength, power and potential of the WHSmith brand to provide the very best service and value for money for their customers, shareholders and wider community.
