Detailed A-Z listings photographs and illustrations demonstrate the techniques involved and tips from experts as well as a general methodology should prove useful to amateur and professional gardeners alike. ... Treasured One The second brilliant book in a brand new fantasy series set in an entirely new world from bestselling authors David and Leigh Eddings. They are called the Dreamers. They look like sleeping children. They are in fact Gods. Despite the literally earth-shattering climax of The Elder Gods Dahlaine still does not regret having brought the Dreamers into the world of the Elder Gods. He only wishes he'd thought harder about the consequences. His sister Aracia fears the whole world will collapse in on itself if the Dreamers should all wake up and realize where they are. It's bad enough with them dreaming the future but at least it's a future. Dahlain is pretty sure he's safe from an 'I-told-you-so' from Aracia. The Dreamers give the Elder Gods a chance in the battle against the vicious Ruler of the Wasteland. Then spies of very short stature start cropping up in Veltan's bucolic and peaceful domain. They look like people or maybe they all look like the same person but they are more sinister than that. Fortunately Dahlaine is soon on the scene riding his thunderbolt. This second story of the sibling Gods is the story of the first god Dahlaine and his child Yaltar who is so dangerous ... PRINCESS MONONOKE (DVD) Excellent beautifully animated adventure from Japanese master Hayao Miyazaki. In a semi-mythical ancient Japan a young warrior finds himself in the middle of a battle between industrialisation and encroaching nature. Morally complex and strikingly imaginative the English language dub boasts contributions from Billy Bob Thornton Gillian Anderson Billy Crudup and Minnie Driver. You may not have heard of Princess Mononoke a film released in it's native Japan in 1996 and given a short but impactful release in the US by Disney last year. Curiously denied a theatrical run in the UK Disney have finally got round to releasing it on DVD and video and it is well worth the wait. Although distributed by Disney Princess Mononoke is not exactly your typical Mickey-Mouse-animated feature. Similarly although a Japanese animation it doesn't sit comfortably beside the usual Manga output seen in this country being neither pornographic excessively violent nor in the other extreme sickeningly sentimental. Instead it is a beautifully (traditionally) animated fantasy adventure based around Japanese mythology with a number of complex characterisations and a philosophical plot. True there are a handful of violent moments but this is a deeply affecting and strikingly designed drama. Directed by Hayao Muyazaki one of Japan's most respected - and influential - animators this is the first film from his Studio Ghibli to reach these shores and it would be nice if the others (including My Neighbour Totoro Kiki's Delivery Service and Laputa Castle In The Sky) would definitely follow. Unfortunately Disney seem to have lost interest so the wait might be a long one. This version of the film includes an English language dub written by Neil Gaiman and performed by a variety of Hollywood stars including Billy Bob Thornton Claire Danes and Minnie Driver. With the exception of Danes who is depressingly bland voicing the main role the rest of the English language cast are excellent and a lot of work has gone into making sure that it doesn't distract from the film itself. For purists (indeed for anyone) the DVD also includes the original Japanese version with literal English subtitles - a better option perhaps and while the DVD is relatively light on special features the choice of languages and subtitles is perhaps the most thorough and impressive. Some will dismiss Mononoke as either a kids cartoon as a violent Japanese Manga cartoon or perhaps even as something resembling Pokémon. It is none of these instead it is an extraordinary film which deserves pride of lace in any self respecting DVD collection. DVD Version Widescreen: 1.85:1 Stereo: Dolby Digital 5.1 (English Japanese French) Subtitles: English English for the hearing impaired French Special Features: Trailer Behind the scenes featurette ... Private Peaceful Heroism or cowardice? A stunning story of the First World War from a master storyteller. Told in the voice of a young soldier the story follows 24 hours in his life at the front during WW1 and captures his memories as he looks back over his life. Full of stunningly researched detail and engrossing atmosphere the book leads to a dramatic and moving conclusion. Both a love story and a deeply moving account of the horrors of the First World War this book will reach everyone from 9 to 90. ... Rough Guide Map: Berlin Nowhere in Berlin is more than a stone's throw from a bar or coffeehouse. Whether you're after 'kaffee und kuchen' or something a little stronger 'The Rough Guide Map: Berlin' should point you in the right direction. There's full coverage of the beautiful parks lakes and canals on the city's outskirts and if you stay out late you'll still be able to find your way back to your hotel as like every map in the series the Berlin map is designed to be clearly legible under streetlights. ... Angels and Demons When a scientist is found brutally murdered Harvard professor Robert Langdon is asked to identify the mysterious symbol seared onto the dead man's chest. Realising it must be the work of the Illuminati - an ancient secret brotherhood sworn against Catholicism - the race is on to prevent a tragedy. ...

WHSmith (WHS) is one of the UK's leading retail groups incorporating market leading companies in retail, publishing and news distribution. The Group has 1,464 stores world-wide, 30,747 employees in 12 countries and sales of some £2.9bn.

WHSmith - At a Glance

WHSmith is the UK's number one family retailer selling a range of products that extends across education, entertainment and information. Each year WHSmith High Street stores sell enough pens to circle the earth; enough books to fill a library shelf from London to Edinburgh; and enough paper to write a letter to everyone in the world. WH Smith also sell 122 million magazines and newspapers each year - enough to make a pile 69 times taller than Mount Everest.

The first High Street store was a small news vendor opened in 1792 in Little Grosvenor Street, London, by Henry Walton Smith and his wife Anna. Today, WHSmith has 545 High Street stores, covering over 3 million square feet of selling space and employing 17,000 staff. Clubcard, the Company's loyalty scheme, has more than 5 million members.

Books, newspapers, magazines and stationery form the core of the High Street business. WHSmith sell more books than any other retailer in England, Scotland and Wales. For example, one in three copies of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire were bought from WHSmith in the first weekend of release. WHSmith promote new authors with their Fresh Talent showcase and also have the Thumping Good Read Award that is voted for by members of Clubcard.

WHSmith's major stores stock more than 45,000 product lines, whereas an average food supermarket carries around 10,000 lines.

WHSmith currently holds a strong market share in each of the core categories in which it trades - books, stationery, news, magazines and entertainment. WH Smith's strategy is to exploit the strength, power and potential of the WHSmith brand to provide the very best service and value for money for their customers, shareholders and wider community.
