WHS Stationery ~ Shop Online at WHS Online Stationery Store - Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (DVD) - (WS) Epic multi-award winning martial arts romance starring Chow Yun Fat Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi. In 19th Century China two martial arts masters struggle to retrieve the stolen Green Destiny sword and defeat the dangerous Jade Fox. A stunning film. Now officially the most successful foreign language film to get a cinema release in the UK Ang Lee's magnificent Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon arrives on DVD with a suitably magical flourish. A gripping combination of romantic drama and action movie this may not be what you might expect from the director of Sense & Sensibility and The Ice Storm but Ang Lee's touch is evident throughout - the characters are fully formed and their relationships form the crux of the story rather than the set pieces (which themselves are jaw-droppingly spectacular). The story is essentially one of theft and murder however it is built on a structure of two love stories - one passionate one unspoken - both the mainstay of such traditional stories. Lee -of course - has had experience with this sort of material before and it may come as a surprise to some that the film has little in the way of action for the first twenty minutes or so instead concentrating on developing the characters and setting up the relationships and castes which are essential later on. When the fight scenes come of course they are utterly spectacular. Michelle Yeoh is as wonderful as ever (hopefully this film will inspire people to seek out her other work) but Chow Yun Fat - more used to John Woo style twin-handgun action - acquits himself well too - his mere presence serving to heighten any scene he cares to raise an eyebrow in. Best of the lot though is Zhang Ziyi who clearly relishes both the action and the dramatics with equal enthusiasm. There have been unimpressed mumbles from some quarters with regard to the wire-work fight sequences. Some seem to find the fact that the characters take flight during battle a dubious concept. A curious complaint given that bullet-dodging heroes are commonplace these days - what on earth is wrong with a little magic in movies? Are people really so staid that they can only scoff when a film does something a little out of the ordinary? Forget that sit back - find a comfortable spot of the floor for your jaw to hit and let them fly. To the Limit: The Eagles The Untold Story of the Eagles The Eagles came together in Los Angeles in 1972 a time when everyone was hungry for a different kind of music. With hits like 'Lyin' Eyes' and 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' the Eagles created some of the most popular music of the time - just as they were setting new standards for decadence egomania drug use and intra band strife. Drawing on interviews with people including band members their friends ex-wives and ex-lovers handlers roadies and hangers-on Marc Eliot reveals what life was really like inside this hugely popular but deeply troubled group. The book follows The Eagles from their early idealistic days as Linda Ronstadt's backup band to their self immolation amid multi-million dollar law suits Lear jet courtships and debilitating cocaine habits - with a coda on their 'Hell Freezes Over' tour the comeback that made them the top grossing live act of 1995 and 1996. This is the story about a band that embodied the excesses of the 1970s and provided in 'Hotel California' a song for the decade's soundtrack. ... Amistad In 1839 a man named Cinque leads a group of Africans to take over the slave ship Amistad. They want to return to their homes in Africa but instead they land in America and are thrown into prison for murder. Now the Africans must begin the fight for their freedom. WHSmith (WHS) is one of the UK's leading retail groups incorporating market leading companies in retail, publishing and news distribution. The Group has 1,464 stores world-wide, 30,747 employees in 12 countries and sales of some £2.9bn.

WHSmith - At a Glance

WHSmith is the UK's number one family retailer selling a range of products that extends across education, entertainment and information. Each year WHSmith High Street stores sell enough pens to circle the earth; enough books to fill a library shelf from London to Edinburgh; and enough paper to write a letter to everyone in the world. WH Smith also sell 122 million magazines and newspapers each year - enough to make a pile 69 times taller than Mount Everest.

The first High Street store was a small news vendor opened in 1792 in Little Grosvenor Street, London, by Henry Walton Smith and his wife Anna. Today, WHSmith has 545 High Street stores, covering over 3 million square feet of selling space and employing 17,000 staff. Clubcard, the Company's loyalty scheme, has more than 5 million members.

Books, newspapers, magazines and stationery form the core of the High Street business. WHSmith sell more books than any other retailer in England, Scotland and Wales. For example, one in three copies of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire were bought from WHSmith in the first weekend of release. WHSmith promote new authors with their Fresh Talent showcase and also have the Thumping Good Read Award that is voted for by members of Clubcard.

WHSmith's major stores stock more than 45,000 product lines, whereas an average food supermarket carries around 10,000 lines.

WHSmith currently holds a strong market share in each of the core categories in which it trades - books, stationery, news, magazines and entertainment. WH Smith's strategy is to exploit the strength, power and potential of the WHSmith brand to provide the very best service and value for money for their customers, shareholders and wider community.
