Electric Moods 'Electric Moods' marries together classic synthesizer / electronic hits from the early 80's pop scene with popular tracks that have been heavily influenced since. Who Dares Wins - (DVD) A new candidate is needed to infiltrate the "The People's Lobby" - a radical band of terrorists following the assassination of a British undercover agent. PROOF OF LIFE (DVD) Tense action drama. When an American businessman is kidnapped his wife hires a kidnap and ransom expert to rescue him or negotiate for his freedom. However as time passes she begins to fall for the man who would save her husband... Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe star. It's a bit tricky discussing Taylor Hackford's Proof Of Life without mentioning - if only briefly - the tabloid brouhaha which surrounded its production notably in the relationship of the two stars Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe. Given the public relationship off screen one might have hoped it would have transferred in-tact to the on-screen coupling however - ironically - the romantic aspect of Proof Of Life is flat which the action set-pieces hold the attention. Based on a Vanity Fair article entitled "Adventures In The Ransom Trade" by William Prochnau Proof Of Life excels when it dwels on the details of the very real kidnap and rescue trade. Also inspired by the autobiography of kidnap victim Thomas Hargrove the film strives for as much realism as possible. Unfortunately in a slightly blinkered attempt not to offend anyone the film is set in a fictional "Latin American Country" which seems to be populated with third world stereotypes the film manages to avoid much of the meat of its source material. As an action thriller Proof of Life works very well a success which is partly down to Russell Crowe's performance as ex-SAS turned K&R man Terry Thorne. Proving that Gladiator was no flash in the pan and that he can hold a film very nicely on his own thank you. David Morse is fine too as the kidnap victim and David Caruso is surprisingly convincing as Crowe's partner. Less convincing though is Meg Ryan - partly because her role is comparatively thin - she needs to do little other than wait around looking concerned which may well be realistic but is hardly gripping film-making. Thanks partly to its fascinating subject matter Proof Of Life is a very entertaining film when it stays true to it's source material it is excellent but when it tries to throw romance into the mix it grinds to a halt. Flawed but interesting stuff. WHSmith (WHS) is one of the UK's leading retail groups incorporating market leading companies in retail, publishing and news distribution. The Group has 1,464 stores world-wide, 30,747 employees in 12 countries and sales of some £2.9bn.

WHSmith - At a Glance

WHSmith is the UK's number one family retailer selling a range of products that extends across education, entertainment and information. Each year WHSmith High Street stores sell enough pens to circle the earth; enough books to fill a library shelf from London to Edinburgh; and enough paper to write a letter to everyone in the world. WH Smith also sell 122 million magazines and newspapers each year - enough to make a pile 69 times taller than Mount Everest.

The first High Street store was a small news vendor opened in 1792 in Little Grosvenor Street, London, by Henry Walton Smith and his wife Anna. Today, WHSmith has 545 High Street stores, covering over 3 million square feet of selling space and employing 17,000 staff. Clubcard, the Company's loyalty scheme, has more than 5 million members.

Books, newspapers, magazines and stationery form the core of the High Street business. WHSmith sell more books than any other retailer in England, Scotland and Wales. For example, one in three copies of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire were bought from WHSmith in the first weekend of release. WHSmith promote new authors with their Fresh Talent showcase and also have the Thumping Good Read Award that is voted for by members of Clubcard.

WHSmith's major stores stock more than 45,000 product lines, whereas an average food supermarket carries around 10,000 lines.

WHSmith currently holds a strong market share in each of the core categories in which it trades - books, stationery, news, magazines and entertainment. WH Smith's strategy is to exploit the strength, power and potential of the WHSmith brand to provide the very best service and value for money for their customers, shareholders and wider community.
