Blackwell Companion to Organizations Drawing on the research of more than 50 influential international scholars this extensive interdisciplinary survey consolidates and evaluates what is known and not known about organizations and critically examines how we learn about and study them. The contributions are grouped under ten headings representing the most important contemporary perspectives on organizations including networks ecology and technology each of which is covered at three levels of organization: intraorganizational organizational and interorganizational. For ease of use each chapter is structured around five common elements: review and evaluation of the literature on that topic; contemporary issues and debates; central questions that remain unanswered; new and emerging directions for research; and connections across levels of organizations. For newcomers to organization studies this resource may provide a foundation for navigating the field and an overview of its complexities. For more experienced students and scholars it may offer a rich source of inspiration and ideas and clear guidance for designing and carrying out exemplary research. ... Austin Powers 2 - (DVD) Mike Myers’ sex obsessed sixties super spy returns in this extraordinarily successful sequel. British Spy Austin Powers is just getting the hang of the “nice” nineties when he has his mojo stolen by his arch nemesis Dr. Evil and is forced to travel back in time to the swinging sixties to retrieve it. Having defeated the dastardly Dr. Evil in the nineties in which both hero and baddie were out of their depth – both had been thawed from some kind of sixties hypersleep if you remember - the sequel The Spy Who Shagged Me puts them at each others throats in more familiar surroundings thanks to a suitably silly plot contrivance that places them both in the sixties. The main female lead is now played by Heather Graham (a young woman named Felicity Shagwell if you must know). As before Myers plays both Austin Powers and Dr. Evil - armed with bald wig and the pre-requisite range of nervous tics that make a bad guy bad – interesting to note that the British character is the goodie. Now there’s a novelty for a Hollywood film! Other familiar faces from the first film make reappearances too Michael York and Robert Wagner return as does Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s Seth Green as Dr. Evil’s slacker son and (albeit briefly) Elizabeth Hurley. Additions to the cast list include Dr. Evil’s psychotic miniature double Mini-Me (Verne Troyer – effortlessly stealing the entire film) and Rob Lowe as a younger version of Robert Wagner. Needless to say the plot is not particularly important more of an excuse for a string of gleefully puerile jokes well-aimed James Bond spoofs and a string of imaginatively daft dance routines. Nothing earth shattering true but as with the first time both Austin Powers and Dr. Evil are shamelessly entertaining creations and with them centre stage The Spy Who Shagged Me cannot fail to be an enjoyably silly film. ... Borrowers - (VHS) Starring: John Goodman Jim Broadbent Celia Imrie Since 1952 Mary Norton's Borrowers have been delighting adults and children alike. This 1998 British film is probably the best screen adaptation yet of these classic stories and I'm sure that Norton herself would have been delighted with the way that it brings her characters to life. Pod Homily and their children Peagreen and Arrietty are the Clocks a family of Borrowers - tiny 4" people who live under the floorboards of a big house and 'borrow' from the Lenders the 'human beans' who live upstairs. They are deeply suspicious of these apparently massive creatures and avoid contact with them at all costs. However when Arrietty is discovered by Pete the Lender's son and they tentatively becomes friends things begin to change. Pete explains that his Great Aunt whose house they all share has died and as no-one can find her will the house is to be demolished by the nasty local lawyer Potter. Although Pete has promised to smuggle the Clocks to their new house when they move the little people evolve a new plan - they must find the missing will . . . What follows is a fabulous mixture of hilarious slapstick and thrilling action sequences that would not be out of place in an Indiana Jones movie. Visually the film is astounding and huge credit must go to the design team who have so seamlessly blended together two worlds of such different scales. The detail present in scenes where the tiny Borrowers are surrounded by massive versions of everyday items is quite astounding. Brilliantly funny and exciting to the last The Borrowers is guaranteed not to disappoint. ...
