Bedford Falls is a archetypal American small town replete with a strong community spirit however despite his idyllic surroundings George Bailey is itching to leave. It’s not so easy though and throughout his life fate conspires to keep him in the same town from where he watches his dreams of travel and adventure fall further and further from his grasp. Whether he’s finding romance with Mary Hatch (Donna Reed) or battling against the odious developer Mr. Potter (Lionel Barrymore) he simply cannot leave. It’s no wonder that he’s sick of the place – until of course the angelic Clarence shows him what the town would have been like had he never been born… This is classic fantasy stuff and while it is often considered to be a feel-good film it’s surprisingly bleak until it’s unashamedly sentimental but guaranteed to leave a big stupid grin on even the most cynical of faces. In retrospect it’s quite odd that the film should work quite so well given that it’s messages are seriously mixed up advocating the benefits of small time life by destroying one character’s dreams of leaving. However it does work and with it’s Christmas Card scenery it’s hint of magic and James Stewart being James Stewart it warms the cockles every time. ... Perfect Puppy Aims to teach owners to bring up a puppy to be well-behaved friendly and happy. The book deals exclusively with raising a puppy and promotes good responsible ownership aiming to prevent problems in adult dogs. ...
