Gone In 60 Seconds - (DVD) Car chase thriller starring Nicholas Cage as a retired car thief (!) who must steal fifty cars within one day to save his brother's life. Angelina Jolie Robert Duvall and Vinnie Jones co-star. Big brash and none-too subtle Dominic Senna's reamke of the 1974 cult favourite is as sleek as a well polished spoiler it doesn't really serve much purpose but it looks flash. The plot which features British bad guy (naturally) played this time by Christopher Eccleston threatening to kill Memphis Raines's (Nicholas Cage) brother (played here by Giovanni Ribisi as a waster who doesn't really deserve it) unless Memphis steals fifty cars within twenty-four hours. Memphis rounds up his old car-stealing buddies - including Robert Duvall and Angelina Jolie - and starts well stealing cars. That's about it really. There are a lot of shots of chrome and paintwork and there's a stonking climactic pursuit which defies most laws of physics to entertaining effect. It's all a bit daft but undemanding and entertaining. The script has the odd cracking one-liner (and a few duds - pity Delroy Lindo who gets the worst line) and there's even a (mostly) mute cameo from Vinnie Jones which is mightily amusing.
